My name is Karen Anderson and I am looking forward to making this year a great one for your second-grader. As a teacher of fifteen years, I have spent eight of those years in general education and seven teaching special education focused on children with learning disabilities. I graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, with a BA in Elementary Education, and after three years of teaching, I completed my MA in Special Education: Learning Disabilities from Teachers College, Columbia University in New York.
On a personal note, my husband, Scott, and I have lived in Johns Creek for fourteen years and I have been active in the Dolvin PTA, Autrey Mill Middle School PTA, Chattahoochee High School PTA, Johns Creek High School Cheerleading Boosters and have served on the Johns Creek High School PTA Board, as well as the JCHS Orchestra Association Board. Having had three children educated in Fulton County Schools, I am well-acquainted with the high expectations and quality of our local schools. Two of our children are graduates of UGA and one is currently attending University of North Florida. Four years ago, we added a new member to our family when our oldest son married his high school sweetheart who just happens to be a teacher, too! In my spare time, I enjoy reading, traveling, playing the violin, boating and spending time with my family.
I am looking forward to getting to know your child and working with you in partnership to give him/her the best second grade experience possible. No one knows your child better than you, so I encourage you to reach out to me if you have a special concern or just want to let me know about a special event happening in your child's life.
